Janusz Głowacki

Born in 1938. Polish American playwright, novelist, screenwriter, short story writer and essayist.

He’s published, among others, „Raport Piłata”, „Moc truchleje”, „Ostatni cieć”, „Z głowy”, „Good night Dżerzi”. Six of his film scripts were produced in Poland (among others, “The Cruise” and “Psychodrama” co-written and directed by Marek Piwowski, “This Love Must Be Killed” directed by Janusz Morgenstern). The film “Wałęsa. The Man of Hope” directed by Oscar winning Andrzej Wajda, is also based on Głowacki’s script. In 1999, his screenplay, “Hairdo”, won the Tony Cox Screenwriting Award. His plays: „The Fourth Sister”, “Fortinbras Gets Drunk”, „Cinders”, „Hunting Cockroaches”, „Antigone in New York”, among others, have been and continue to be staged in theaters across the world.

Głowacki was awarded the Jurzykowski Foundation Award, the National Endowment for the Arts Playwright Fellowship, the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Drama League of New York Playwriting Award, Hollywood Drama-Logue Critics Award and the Czeslaw Milosz Award. His last two novels: the autobiographical “Z głowy” and “Good night Dżerzi” quickly became bestsellers. “Good night Dżerzi” was published in Russia, France, Israel, Turkey, the Chech Republic and in Hungary.Głowacki’s newest book about the untold story of creating the “Wałęsa” script for Andrzej Wajda will be published in November 2013 in Poland.
