The Young Gala of the 43rd Polish Film Festival

We already know the verdict of the jury of the Short Film Competition of the 43rd Film Festival in Gdynia. During the Young Gala that took place on Friday, 21st September, 2018, on the New Stage of the Musical Theatre, non-statutory awards for the creators of feature films were presented too.

The Jury of the Short Films Competition composed of:

  • Maria Sadowska – a singer, film director, composer and a songwriter (President of the Jury),
  • Norah McGettigan – a writer and a film director,
  • Leszek Starzyński – a film editor and film producer,

After watching 26 films qualified for the Short Film Competition, the Jury unanimously awarded the following prizes:

LUCJAN BOKINIEC AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM IN THE SHORT FILM COMPETITION

in the amount of PLN 12,000 for the film

“Sophie’s Ordinary Life”, dir. Dominika Gnatek

(production: University of Silesia in Katowice – Krzysztof Kieślowski Faculty of Radio and Television)

For the choice of subject, excellent acting and artistic skill as well as addressing difficult issues in a heartwarming and unpretentious manner.

JURY SPECIAL AWARD

in the amount of PLN 8,000 for the film

„Users”, dir. Jakub Piątek

(production: Munk Studio – Polish Filmmakers Association, Rzeczy, TVN, DI Factory, All, D’Erceville Regiment, Aeroplan, JJ)

For an accurate and painful diagnosis of contemporary interpersonal relations.

MULTIMEDIA POLSKA AWARD (ex aequo)

in the amount of PLN 5,000 PLN for the film

„Relax”, dir. Agnieszka Elbanowska

(production: Munk Studio – Polish Filmmakers Association, Rozbrat Films, TVN)

For a light-hearted and original storytelling, drawing inspiration from the traditions of Polish comedy and addressing important social issues.

Award in the amount of PLN 5,000

„Atlas”, dir. Maciej Kawalski

(production: Munka Studio – Polish Filmmakers Association, Film Produkcja, Film Factory, Locomotive)

For a skillful and light storytelling, excellent realization and surreal humour.

FILMOWA MAŁOPOLSKA AWARD

a production voucher worth PLN 40,000 for the laureate for production of their next film in Małopolska

„Saszka”, dir. Katarzyna Lesisz

(production: Lodz Film School)

For tackling an important and hot subject, presented in an non-obvious way and for a powerful portrait of a woman.

HELIOGRAF AWARD FOR THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHY

production support worth PLN 10,000 in the form of lending photography and camera equipment for the needs of the making of another film of the winner

For conjuring a Californian climate in Polish conditions.
